Located in the front room of our wonderfully restored Christchurch Villa at 59 Gloucester street is WE Are Books: a second-hand bookshop with a difference. Stocked with over a thousand good quality books, well organised and with genres ranging from kids to middle eastern history (and pretty much everything in between), we are confident that you will find something to pique your interest! Every dollar you spend will go directly to supporting the CWEA and our charitable purpose.
We have a large selection of New Zealand titles as well as a broad and growing selection of non-fiction books with politics, science and history of the world each warranting a mention! Our kids area is cosy and inviting: and children are welcome to sit, read and play while you browse! We also have cookery, self-help, gardening, philosophy, arts and crafts books and more.
In terms of fiction, we have great holiday and summer reading with separate shelves for New Zealand Authors, Crime, Classics, Sci-fi and Fantasy, Young Adults and Graphic Novels.
Most of our stock is donated and we are so grateful to all those who choose to support us in this way. We accept all donations of quality books as long as they are in good condition and are happy to collect larger amounts where we can, by arrangement. Nothing is wasted: if we don’t think books are quite right for our shop, we have other outlets (such as occasional markets) where we can still make great use of them.
Our shop is run by a wonderful team of knowledgeable, welcoming volunteers who are super happy to help if you have specific requests. If you are interested in volunteering in the shop get in touch as we are looking for some more regular and casual help for the team.
