Support the Canterbury WEA

Support us

WEA receives no government funding. We’re a registered charity, dependent on donations and other gifts to continue to operate.

Here are some ways for you to support the WEA:

  1. Pop a donation in one of the donation boxes
  2. Give a koha at an event
  3. Donate online
  4. Consider leaving us a gift in your will
  5. Donate spare produce, crafts, or preloved books and small household items to be sold on our sales table to raise money for the WEA
  6. Become a volunteer
  7. Become a member.

For more than 100 years the WEA has provided the people of Canterbury access to affordable adult and community education that promotes a fair and equitable society. We have only been able to do this because of the passion and generosity of our supporters. Your involvement and contribution (however big or small) will help ensure that we can continue to provide these services for generations to come.

Give your time and expertise

Some of the ways our amazing volunteers support WEA include:
  • Gifting professional services – Our treasurer is a chartered accountant from Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, who gives her time pro-bono as part of her firm’s community commitment
  • Gifting creative services – We’re always on the look-out for professional graphic designers, photographers and videographers to support our marketing pro-bono
  • Gifting creative talent – Adam McGrath and Lindon Puffin recently donated a concert that raised $600
  • Maintaining the WEA garden
  • Maintaining the WEA premises
  • Helping at one-off events and talks
  • Distributing programmes and posters
  • Gifting food for working bees or special events.

Leave a legacy

We’ve been fortunate to receive some extraordinarily generous legacies from WEA students and supporters. These legacies are invested, and the interest enables us to offer our courses and events at an affordable price.

Legacies also provide capital for major projects, like the new teaching kitchen, disability access and front garden planned for 2022.

If you love the WEA, believe in what we stand for, and want to make sure we continue to offer accessible education to the people of Canterbury, please consider leaving a legacy in your will. We’d love to discuss the details with you.
