Come Together and Share a Meal for Matariki!

*** We regret that this event has been cancelled ***

Join us at the WEA 12 – 2pm, Sunday June 23rd. Celebrate the diverse cultures that call our city home, share in a tasty feast of food from Afghanistan, Eritrea and Nepal. Matariki, also known as Pleiades and the Daughters of Atlas, is a star cluster that rises in the night sky marking mid-winter. For Māori, sighting these stars announces the start of the new year, and gathering as a community to feast together is an important part of celebrations. Stories are told about the nine whetū (stars) of Matariki around the world from the Pacific to Australia, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Africa. They are a reminder that while we may come from different places and different backgrounds, we share many things too.

Join us for a long lunch and spend some time with each other during this special time of year. Please note that this is a ticketed event – no door sales. Tickets are $25 for a set lunch menu featuring a selection of dishes from Afghanistan, Eritrea and Nepal. Choose either a halal meat, or vegan meal. Meals include starter, mains, dessert and a drink!
